Phenotype

phenotype of homozygote: embryonic development is characterized by aberrant patterns of cell division, leading to defects in the cells of the suspensor, root and hypocotyl precursors, and provasculature; growth of seedlings arrests soon after germination; seedlings lack a root and hypocotyl and display severe vascular pattern defects in their cotyledons; usually with two cotyledon although sometimes with one or with several small true leaves, joined to a small basal stub. Phenotype of heterozygote: less severely affected in all aspects of phenotype than axr6-1; rosette leaves are short and wrinkled; plants are short and somewhat bushy (have increased number of basal inflorescences); fertile and green; siliques are at a more acute angle relative to the stem than wt; seedlings are auxin resistant in root and hypocotyl elongation, have delayed root gravity response and decreased number of lateral roots; backcrossed 8 times.
