Stress Tolerant Plants

  IMPLICATIONS

Present Outcomes

An example of a recent progression in the development of Stress Tolerant Plants. Transgenic maize crops are grown for the first time in field conditions.

Human Tolerance

The research and development of stress tolerant plants is now predominated by transgenic techniques. This is essentially using genetically modified plants and there are a lot of ethical and environmental implications involved with the subject.

Future Challenges

Not all plant mechanisms are fully understood and for better devolopment of Stress Tolerant Plants they should be investigated further. Presently, individual genes for single stress tolerance traits are being transposed. Multiple gene transfer may solve many more problems.
