Searching by Name Example

Shown below is the form used for name searching.

A simple form is presented in which you can enter a text term which you would like to search for in the putative ID's of the assemblies and sequences. For the tutorial this form is not active, but the results of a search in which we have entered the term 'actin' in the search window and then clicked the search button, are shown below.

Notice that only 30 entries are returned, in contrast to over 200 for a similar search against the MSU/UM database. The 17 'TC' entries are assemblies and account for a total of 101 ESTs in this case. If the putative identification of a TC entry is not listed as an isolog, it is identical to the previously cloned Arabidopsis gene of that name. The remaining entries (suffixed with P_ or Q_) are individual ESTs, and their putative identifications are extracted from the top scoring protein match stored in dbEST. For the purpose of this tutorial only selected entries are linked to the appropriate files.
